Things aren’t so rosy for Facebook stockholders, but a glimmer of hope emerged when the company’s share prices closed 3 percent higher last week.
Since Facebook’s IPO (Initial Public Offering) on May 18th, stock of the world’s largest social network has plunged by 29 percent from $38 a share to $27.10.
The 79 cent lift comes after internet market research firm comScore previewed a report in a blog post citing the effectiveness of Facebook’s advertising. The entry said comScore is gaining “critical new insights that Facebook earned media is having a statistically significant positive lift on people’s purchasing of a brand.”
The news is likely welcome relief to many prominent representative shareholders including Switzerland’s largest bank UBS. CNBC reports that UBS may have lost up to $350 million on the Facebook pitfall, although it said the Swiss bank contends its losses were immaterial.
Dario Franchitti Claims Victory at Indy
Dario Franchitti recently cruised to his third Indy 500 victory in a race that is sure to be remembered for a long time.
The Associated Press reported Franchitti and his teammate Scott Dixon traded the lead 10 times in the last 60 laps of a race Indy Car CEO Randy Bernard called “tremendous.” The news agency quoted Bernard saying IndyCar couldn’t have asked for anything better for its marquee event.
In the thrilling finish, Japan’s Takuma Sato moved into second place as Scotland’s Franchitti made his final pass of Dixon into the lead. Sato attempted a final pass on the inside but spun out of control and slammed into wall allowing the Scotsman a clean run to the finish line under caution.
Dixon followed in second and Brazil’s Tony Kanaan finished third. All three were close friends of late two-time Indy 500 champion Dan Wheldon, who died in a crash in IndyCar’s season finale last October.
The AP quoted Franchitti as saying the 500 mile race was “kind of like old times,” referring to the jockeying on the track between himself Dixon, and Kanaan. He said he thought during the race that Wheldon must have been laughing at the three friends going at it.
Franchitti’s victory pulls him closer to the all-time record of four wins at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which is currently held by three retired drivers.
